Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Wednesday led his North-East counterparts to a strategic meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, pressing for urgent federal intervention in infrastructure and energy development across the region.

The governors—Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Bala Muhammad (Bauchi), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba)—joined Zulum in calling for the speedy completion of 17 critical road projects and the resumption of oil exploration activities in Kolmani and Lake Chad frontier wells.

As chair of the North-East Governors’ Forum, Zulum emphasized that finishing these projects would significantly enhance trade, agriculture, mobility, and security within the region. Key roads listed for completion include:

  • Kano–Maiduguri Road
  • Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri Railway line
  • Bama–Mubi–Yola Road
  • Wukari–Jalingo–Yola Road
  • Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Damaturu Road
  • Damaturu–Geidam Road
  • Gombe–Potiskum–Damaturu–Biu Road
  • Maiduguri–Monguno–Baga Road
  • Maiduguri–Ngala–Bama–Banki Road

The governors further urged the Federal Government to strengthen support for oil exploration, which they believe could diversify the North-East economy, generate jobs, and improve revenue streams.

President Tinubu, in his remarks, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bridging infrastructure gaps and promoting sustainable economic growth in the region.
