Gusau, Zamfara State — Security operatives in Zamfara have arrested a suspected arms trafficker, identified as Nasuru Dawan Jiya, who was allegedly transporting weapons to criminal gangs in the state.

In a statement issued Tuesday, police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar disclosed that the suspect was intercepted on September 15 by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit while driving a Toyota Corolla along the Gummi–Sokoto Road.

A thorough search of the vehicle at Gambanda Godabe village, Gummi Local Government Area, uncovered a deadly cache concealed in a sack of oranges. Among the recovered items were four AK-47 rifles, 200 rounds of PKT ammunition, 28 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and four empty AK-47 magazines.

During questioning, Jiya allegedly admitted that he was delivering the weapons to armed groups operating in Gurusu village.

Abubakar further noted that investigations are ongoing to trace and dismantle the wider supply network, with efforts underway to apprehend additional accomplices.

The arrest underscores the ongoing battle against illegal arms circulation in Zamfara, a state plagued by banditry and kidnapping.
