The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused certain politicians of hiring armed thugs to disrupt the scheduled visit of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to the state.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, revealed the claim during a press briefing in Gusau on Wednesday, saying the alleged plot was intended to distract from Matawalle’s homecoming event set for Thursday.
Idris said the APC had made adequate arrangements to receive the minister, who is expected to meet party leaders, members, and supporters in both Gusau and his hometown, Maradun.
“Unfortunately, we have received credible intelligence indicating a serious plan to disrupt the minister’s visit,” Idris stated. He claimed that thugs have been hired to attack the minister’s convoy and create chaos along the Gusau–Maradun route, particularly near Tsafe.
The party urged its members to remain law-abiding and avoid carrying weapons during the visit to ensure safety and order.
“We are warning our members against carrying any type of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond,” Idris said.
He also called on security agencies to take note of the alleged plan and ensure that anyone attempting to cause unrest is arrested and prosecuted.
