Tragedy struck again at a concert by Nigerian music star Asake as a stampede claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman, Karen Lojore, in Nairobi, Kenya.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, at the Nyayo National Stadium, where overcrowding reportedly triggered a rush among concertgoers.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that emergency medical personnel at the venue immediately carried out resuscitation efforts before Karen was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital, where doctors later confirmed her death.

The show organiser, Tukutane Entertainment, confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its official Instagram page, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

“We are heartbroken to confirm that a tragic incident took place during our December 20 concert, resulting in the loss of a life,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this painful time. We are fully cooperating with emergency responders and relevant authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

This is not the first time a deadly stampede has been linked to an Asake concert. In December 2022, a 33-year-old Nigerian woman and mother of two, Rebecca Ikumelo, died after sustaining fatal injuries during a crowd surge at Asake’s performance at the Brixton O2 Academy in London.

The recurring incidents have once again raised concerns about crowd control and safety measures at large music events.
