Tragedy struck Yobe State University on Sunday evening as a 100-level Education Biology student, Amina Yakubu, lost her life in a fatal road accident near the institution’s main gate.

The accident, which occurred around 5:30 pm along Gujba Road in Damaturu, involved a tricycle (Keke Napep) and a vehicle. Amina, a native of Potiskum Local Government Area, was crushed to death on the spot. Four other occupants of the tricycle, including a university matron, sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The incident has plunged the university community into mourning. Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bukar Jamri, speaking through the institution’s Information Officer, Abdulmumin Kolo Gulani, described the late student as a promising young woman whose life was cut short too soon.

“The University management is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure that the injured students receive urgent medical care. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority, and we are deeply shaken by this tragic incident,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for Amina’s soul to rest peacefully in Jannatul Fiddausi and for her family to find strength in this painful period.

The deceased student has since been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
