Yobe Man Murders Wife With Machete, Two Others Arrested Over Phone Theft Killing

The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for 55-year-old Hamidu Ali, who allegedly killed his 40-year-old wife with a machete in Babangida, Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 28, 2025, around 11 a.m., according to a statement by the state police spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim. The police received a distress call from residents of Koriyel Village reporting that Hamidu Ali fatally attacked his wife for reasons yet to be determined before fleeing the scene.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the suspect,” Abdulkarim stated.
In a separate incident in Fika Local Government Area, the police arrested two men for allegedly killing a man over accusations of phone and power bank theft.
The suspects—25-year-old Musa Sule and 30-year-old Muntari Suleman, both from Ngalda Town—were arrested by operatives of the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters on Thursday, June 27, 2025, at about 5 p.m.
“Both suspects confessed to beating the victim to death over a missing cellphone and power bank,” Abdulkarim said, noting that the case is currently being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to both incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned the acts of violence and urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“We call on citizens to resolve disputes peacefully and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in promoting safety and order across the state,” CP Ado advised.
The police also appealed to the public to share any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect, emphasizing the importance of community-police collaboration in tackling crime.
