RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons is reportedly on the verge of completing a sensational transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, with the Dutch midfielder expected to sign a long-term deal and become Spurs’ seventh signing of the summer.
Transfer expert David Ornstein reports that Tottenham have agreed to pay €60 million (£52m) for the Netherlands international, who has already undergone a medical and settled personal terms with the North London club. Only minor details remain before the move is officially announced.
The 22-year-old was strongly linked with Chelsea, while Arsenal had earlier beaten Spurs to the signing of Eberechi Eze. However, journalist Matt Law confirms that Chelsea have no plans to hijack the deal, with the Blues instead prioritizing a move for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.
Simons has signed a seven-year contract with Tottenham, ending a successful spell at RB Leipzig where he scored 22 goals and provided 24 assists in 78 appearances across all competitions. Last season alone, he registered 11 goals and 8 assists in 33 outings, and he has already started this campaign strongly with one goal and one assist in two games.
When will Xavi Simons make his Tottenham debut?
The deal is unlikely to be finalized in time for Simons to feature in Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth this weekend. However, the Dutch star is expected to make his Spurs debut in a fiery London derby against West Ham United at the London Stadium on September 13, 2025.
Tottenham have enjoyed a perfect start to the new season under Thomas Frank, winning both of their opening matches against Burnley and Manchester City without conceding a goal. The addition of Simons is seen as a major boost to their midfield creativity as they push to challenge at the top of the Premier League.
