Cody Rhodes wins the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, finishes the story against Roman Reigns
The main event of Night 2 is here. Reigns vs. Rhodes II.
Cody Rhodes is out first, wearing some interesting garb and handing it off to his wife Brandi before walking to the ring. Rhodes is ready to go. Reigns is out next as the Philadelphia school district’s All-City Orchestra perform his theme. Reigns only has Paul Heyman at his side for now. The announce team confirms the Bloodline Rules include no disqualifications and no countouts.
“Ladies and gentleman, this is the 9th inning,” Michael Cole says after the formal introductions. Here we go. The crowd is raucous
A slow tempo to this match, much like last night. The first big moment: Reigns misses Rhodes with a spear and runs into the ringpost. Rhodes is already getting out a table. Reigns htis the drive-by on the outside and puts the table back under the ring. Reigns runs into the ringsteps but keeps his distance from Rhodes otherwise by sneaking across the ring. Rhodes seems anxious. Reigns whacks Rhodes with a kendo stick
Rhodes switches things up with a running bulldog before locking in a Figure Four. Reigns rakes the eyes of Rhodes to break the submission attempt.
Reigns hits Rhodes with a large Prime bottle and sends Rhodes into the crowd. Rhodes fights back and suplexes Reigns on a platform among the floor seating. Back in the ring, Rhodes attempts a Disaster Kick but eats a powerbomb by Reigns. Both men recuperate. Another suplex by Reigns and a 2 count by Charles Robinson. Reigns continues to have the upper hand
Rhodes tries to fight out of Reigns’ grasp, but Reigns hits a Perfect Plex for a 2 count. Rhodes finally gets a couple strikes, and both men are down. Reigns shakes off the chants from the crowd, and both trade punches. Rhodes hits a suplex followed by a Disaster Kick for a 2 count. Paul Heyman is relieved.
Rhodes attempts another move off the ropes, but Reigns hits the Cross Rhodes! 2 count! “That move sucks,” Reigns says. Reigns misses a Superman punch, and Rhodes hits the jab-Bionic Elbow combo. Back outside of the ring, Reigns lays on the ground as Rhodes clears an announce table. Reigns low-blows Rhodes and powerbombs Rhodes through the table. Reigns rushes Rhodes back into the ring, hits the Superman Punch. Kick out
Reigns’ spear attempt countered into a Cody Cutter for a 2 count. Rhodes reverses a Rock Bottom attempt by Reigns into a spear! 2 count!
Rhodes hits the Cross Rhodes, goes for another and eats a kick by Jimmy Uso. Superman punch, but here comes Jey Uso! The Usos fight up the ramp, and Jey sends Jimmy through a table off the stage. Both Usos are down and likely out
Back in the ring, Reigns spears Rhodes but gets just a 2 count. The two go back out of the ring, and Rhodes spears Reigns through the barricade. Rhodes again hits the Cross Rhodes, but Solo Sikoa is here. Samoan Spike to Rhodes. But still just a 2-count. Spear to Rhodes. Still just a 2 count.
Here comes John Cena?! AA to Reigns! AA to Sikoa through the Spanish announce table! That’s a response from Sikoa’s decimation of Cena at Crown Jewel last year
Here comes The Rock! The staredown follows, but Cena misses a punch and eats a Rock Bottom
The Shield music plays….and Reigns destroys a Rollins sneak attack with a spear. Rock is about to use his Mama Rhodes belt, but the gong sounds and the lights go out!
The Undertaker! He chokeslams Rock, then disappears
Brandi Rhodes celebrates with her husband. Randy Orton, John Cena, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, LA Knight, Jey Uso, CM Punk and Kevin Owens join the celebration in the ring. Rhodes’ mother joins the celebration, and Rhodes presents the title to her with tears in everyone’s eyes. A moment that will live on.
Rhodes is on the mic. Rhodes calls for Bruce Prichard and Triple H to come from the back. Rhodes gets the hug from Prichard and embraces Triple H.
Rhodes gets a handshake from Seth Rollins and hugs from Michael Cole and others. That’s how WrestleMania XL ends. What a night
Bayley wins the WWE Women’s Championship
Bayley comes to the ring first, being carried by four masked men while wearing wings. Iyo Sky is out next with the rest of Damage CTRL, though they leave before the match begins
Bayley comes out firing, and she has the fans in her corner. Bayley has the initial upper hand with a splash onto Iyo Sky on the outside. But she is favoring her right knee, and Sky is targeting that now. Nice reversal by Bayley as Sky tries to dive over the timekeeper’s barrier with a spear. Bayley, an avid 49ers fan, acknowledges 49ers tight end George Kittle in the crowd.
Bayley blocks another top-rope moonsault and tries a top-rope move herself. Sky counters into a crossface, which Bayley has to break up. Sky locks the crossface in again. Bayley again breaks it up, then hits a Bayley to Belly for a 2 count. Bayley tries another Bayley to Belly, and Sky counters with a knee to the back. Another top-rope moonsault lands, but Sky gets just a 2-count. Sky tries it again, gets it reversed, then reverses a Rose Plant. Pretty solid stuff.
The finish: Bayley clotheslines Sky, then gives her a suplex. Flying elbow, Rose Plant, 1,2,3. Bayley wins! Bayley is now a 4-time women’s champion. She celebrates in the ring
Logan Paul retains the United States Championship
Logan Paul, the champion, comes to the ring in a monster truck and a Prime bottle mascot. Surely that’s a random person in that bottle suit, no? Kevin Owens gets a pep talk from Sami Zayn backstage before coming out to the ring, similar to last night’s win by Zayn. Orton is last out. Owens, using a golf cart to get to the ring, drives back up the ramp to give Orton a ride down to the ring
First several minutes are Orton and Owens double teaming Paul inside and out of the ring. But Orton halfheartedly attempts an RKO that Owens rebuffs. That leads to the two trading blows, followed by a Paul clothesline.
Plenty of good action in this match. Nice moonsault from Owens on Paul for a 2-count. Paul slinks out of the ring, and Orton surprises Owens with an RKO. 2 count
Paul is back in the ring with brass knuckles. Orton tries to wrestle them away, but Paul eventually gets Orton with the knuckles. But Orton kicks out at 2! That’s been the easy bailout for Paul during his title reign.
Paul also hits Owens twice with the brass knuckles. But…Orton strikes with an RKO out of nowhere o Paul. No pin attempt, but Orton does get the brass knuckles and hands them to the referee. Orton sets Paul up for a vintage Orton punt, but the Prime bottle pulls Paul out of the ring. The Prime bottle mascot, apparently a streamer friend of Paul, taunts Orton. That’s not a good idea. (The announce team says IShowSpeed is the fellow in the bottle uniform.)
The finish: Orton gives Speed (?) an RKO on the announce table. Owens takes advantage with a pop-up powerbomb and a stunner for a 2-count. Orton hits Owens with a RKO off of a pop-up powerbomb attempt, but Paul tosses Orton out of the ring, hits a splash on Owens and pins him for the win in about 17 minutes
WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2024 honored
King and Queen of the Ring returns
WWE announces that King and Queen of the Ring will take place on May 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
LA Knight bests AJ Styles
The fans love LA Knight. AJ Styles has new theme music, and it’s not nearly as interesting as the one he’s used for his time in WWE
Styles works on Knight’s leg for several minutes, and the match really gets going with Knight being dropped outside the ring on the exposed floor. Knight gets his knees up on a 450 splash by Styles. The crowd chants for Knight.
The finish: Styles gets the Phenomenal Forearm and the Styles Clash countered, and Knight eventually hits the BFT on Styles to get the pinfall victory in about 12 minutes. Good, physical match
Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits defeat The Final Testament by pinning Karrion Kross
Snoop Dogg is on commentary. Bubba Ray Dudley will be the special guest referee.
After a few minutes of action and a nearfall for Karrion Kross, Kross is not happy with Bubba Ray and pushes the referee
It doesn’t go well for Kross.
The finish: After the Profits plant Kross with the “Whassup?!” Dudley Boyz move of yesteryear, Bubba Ray Dudley asks Lashley and the Street Profits to get the tables. They oblige. Montez Ford puts Kross through a table via a frog splash to win the match. Snoop celebrates with Lashley and the Street Profits
Damian Priest cashes in Money in the Bank, pins Drew McIntyre to win the World Heavyweight Championship
Priest hits McIntyre with the briefcase and cashes it in. Priest drags McIntyre into the ring, hits the South of Heaven and pins McIntyre. Wow.
Drew McIntyre’s reign lasts minutes, but at least it happened in front of a crowd this time
Rollins is very emotional as he watches McIntyre celebrate. After celebrating with his family, McIntyre goes over to Punk on the announce table and tells Punk that he’ll end his career when he returns. After more trash talk, Punk trips McIntyre off of the table, rips off his arm brace and hits McIntyre over the head with it.
Here comes Damian Priest with the Money in the Bank
