The Nigeria international signed a new three-year deal with Leicester City last summer, turning down the opportunity to leave on a free transfer. According to the BBC, the clause came into effect after Leicester’s recent 1-0 defeat to Premier League champions Liverpool confirmed their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

Ndidi, 28, remained loyal to the club despite interest from French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco during the January transfer window—a bid Leicester ultimately rejected.

Having joined the Foxes in 2017 from Belgian side KRC Genk, Ndidi has made 27 appearances this season across all competitions under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
