Wike Says Tinubu Can Sack Him as FCT Minister, Vows Continued Support Ahead of 2027

Amid rising calls for his removal as FCT Minister over ongoing political tensions between his camp and Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike stated that President Bola Tinubu has the authority to dismiss him if he chooses.

Speaking at the grand finale of his ‘Thank You’ tour across Rivers State Local Government Areas at Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola, Wike highlighted his unwavering support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential elections, emphasizing that Rivers State’s Renewed Hope family, which he leads, played a significant role in securing the President’s victory.

“So, like Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda said, we never signed any formal agreement with the President in 2023. He simply told us, ‘Support us, you will not regret it.’ By God’s grace, our efforts were recognized,” Wike remarked, accompanied by prominent members of the Renewed Hope family, including APC and PDP factional chairmen and other political figures.

The minister added that Tinubu has reciprocated the Rivers State support through his ministerial appointment and other initiatives benefiting the state. Wike also criticized supporters of 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, claiming they could deliver only 10% of votes in Rivers and warned that Atiku’s prospects in 2027 would face similar challenges if he returns as a candidate.

Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, declared Wike as the political leader of their camp, promising full backing in efforts to secure Tinubu’s re-election. Amaewhule, an indigene of Obio/Akpor LGA like Wike, was joined by factional party leaders, House of Representatives member Kingsley Chinda, and other political heavyweights in endorsing the minister.

Wike’s statements come amid growing tension in Rivers politics, particularly the strained relationship with Governor Fubara, as he continues to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections.
