Wike Oversees FCTA Meeting as New Waste Management Plan Set to Launch in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced the launch of a new waste management system starting Monday, November 17, 2025, aimed at making Abuja cleaner and better organized.

The announcement followed the FCT Executive Committee meeting chaired by Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking to journalists, Chief Felix Amechi Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), confirmed the committee approved new contractors for waste collection and management throughout the FCT. The approval also covers the purchase of treatment plants and maintenance of supervisory utility vehicles.

“Residents should expect a cleaner city,” Chief Obuah assured, expressing confidence in the improved sanitation system.

Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Head of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), said the committee approved N111,913,176 for emergency waste evacuation from open dumps, waterways, and streams in the Dogon Gada community, AMAC.

Meanwhile, Hon. Chinedum Elechi, FCT Transportation Secretary, revealed that funds were also approved for printing services for the Directorate of Road Transport Services, maintenance of 34 old traffic lights, and installation of three new traffic lights across the city.

Hon. Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the Minister, emphasized Wike’s commitment to a cleaner, more organized Abuja, highlighting that the new waste management initiative is a top priority for the administration.
