Wike: Atiku Dumped PDP After I Resisted His Plan to Ruin the Party

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because he refused to let him “destroy the party.”
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, Wike said Atiku’s departure was a direct result of his firm stand on protecting the integrity and unity of the PDP.
According to the former Rivers State governor, Atiku’s political ambition was clouded by personal interest rather than the party’s collective vision.
“Atiku left the PDP because I refused to allow him destroy it. I stood by what was right and insisted the party must survive beyond any individual ambition,” Wike stated.
He further emphasized that the PDP must remain strong and independent, free from the influence of individuals who prioritize personal power over the party’s long-term success.
Wike noted that while disagreements are normal in politics, he would not compromise his principles or allow anyone to destabilize the platform that has built leaders across Nigeria.
“I believe in party discipline and internal democracy. The PDP belongs to Nigerians, not to any single politician,” he added.
The FCT Minister reaffirmed his commitment to working with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to advance national development while maintaining his loyalty to the ideals of good governance and accountability.
