Wife Allegedly Sets Police Officer Husband Ablaze After Dispute in Ogun

A shocking domestic incident unfolded in the Iperu community of Ogun State, Nigeria, where a woman, identified as Sarah Ayinde, allegedly set her husband, Abidemi Ayinde, a special constable with the Ogun State Police Command, ablaze.

The tragic event, which reportedly occurred on December 12, 2024, stemmed from what sources described as a minor disagreement between the couple.

According to The PUNCH, a local source revealed that the dispute escalated to a violent confrontation, culminating in Sarah allegedly dousing her husband in a flammable substance and setting him on fire.

“There was an incident in Iperu where a police constable was set on fire by his wife following an argument. The victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital,” the source stated.

In a telephone confirmation, Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, provided details of the case. She disclosed that the incident was reported as an attempted murder and that efforts to apprehend the suspect were ongoing.

“On December 12, 2024, around 10:00 a.m., an attempted murder was reported in Iperu. At No. 20 Igboore Street, Abidemi Ayinde, a male special constable, was set ablaze by his wife, Sarah Ayinde, after a minor disagreement,” Odutola said.

The spokesperson further explained that the victim was rushed to Bolawatife Hospital, where he is now in stable condition. She assured the public that the police had launched a manhunt to locate the suspect, Sarah Ayinde, who is currently at large.

“The division’s crime branch is actively investigating the case to uncover further details,” Odutola added.

This incident has sparked widespread reactions and discussions about domestic violence and its devastating consequences within families. Residents in the Iperu community have called on the authorities to ensure justice is served while urging couples to seek non-violent means of resolving conflicts.

As the investigation continues, the Ogun State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the suspect is apprehended and the case is thoroughly prosecuted.
