Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed why he declined an appointment offer from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he preferred to focus on his private life after decades in politics.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Fayose explained that while he maintains a cordial relationship with President Tinubu, it does not translate into political affiliation or support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Have you seen me accept any appointment from the APC?” Fayose asked. “Asiwaju asked me, ‘What can we give you?’ and I told him, ‘Nothing, sir.’ At 65, I want to stay home, take care of my personal life, and focus on other things. I’ve served as governor twice. I’ve done my part — tomorrow will take care of itself.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart added that his decision reflects a desire to step back from active politics and allow younger leaders to take the stage, even as he continues to maintain mutual respect with figures across party lines.
