Why doesn’t any team want to sign Cristiano Ronaldo
July 30,2022
It is hard to understand why none of the giants of European football are willing to make room in their squads for Cristiano Ronaldo
The Manchester United striker wants to play in the Champions League this season and asked his agent, Jorge Mendes, to find him a team in that competition
As such, Ronaldo was linked with a move to teams such as Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico or Real Madrid, but it seems that nobody wants to sign the Portugal international who has scored 815 career goals and averages an exorbitant 0.73 goals per game over the last 20 years.
Here, we go through the different clubs that were linked with him and explain why each one refused to bring him in
Bayern Munich
The German side were one of the first to publicly state that Cristiano Ronaldo was not in their plans.
“We came to the conclusion that, despite all the appreciation we all feel for him, he would not have fitted in with our philosophy in the current situation,” CEO Oliver Kahn said.
PSG
The Ligue 1 champions decided to change the course of their squad planning following the departures of Mauricio Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo.
President Nasser Al-Khelaifi pointed out during the press conference where he presented new coach Christophe Galtier that the team are in search of more long-term commitments, and that Cristiano Ronaldo does not fit the new idea.
Chelsea
The option of playing for the Blues would have seduced Cristiano Ronaldo, but several media outlets have pointed out that Thomas Tuchel is not fond of the Portuguese striker, so he has no place at Chelsea
Atletico and Real Madrid
His former club did not contemplate the possible return of the highest scorer in their history, while many Atletico Madrid fans expressed their opposition to a potential Cristiano Ronaldo signing.
Atleti‘s international fan groups union even issued a statement in which they expressed their “absolute rejection” of the possibility of signing Ronaldo, “who represents the antithesis of the values that are the hallmarks of our Atleti“.
In addition, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo said at the presentation of Nahuel Molina that the team will make no more signings
