The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of Obi Levi Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, a suspected kidnapper and ritualist who was earlier declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force.
Obieze, a native of Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu State, was apprehended while attempting to escape Nigeria through the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road on a motorcycle.
According to reports, the suspect, a well-known native doctor in his community, was implicated in the abduction of a 13-year-old girl, who was kidnapped earlier this week while walking with her father to their farm. She was later rescued by police operatives from a shrine allegedly linked to Obieze.
In an earlier update, the Enugu State Police Command confirmed the arrest of three accomplices connected to the crime. The suspects—Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38)—are currently in police custody. Additionally, two decomposed bodies were discovered in a pit sealed with concrete at the compound of the fugitive native doctor.
Obieze, also known by aliases such as “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show”, has been described by law enforcement as a notorious traditionalist with a history of criminal allegations.
In a statement released on Thursday, Immigration Service spokesperson ACI AS Akinlabi confirmed the arrest and disclosed that Obieze’s identity was verified through a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrollment slip found on him.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes during preliminary interrogation.
The Nigerian Immigration Service is working in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to transfer the suspect for further investigation and prosecution. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to national security and maintaining strict border surveillance.
