The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has officially debunked widespread rumors suggesting the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
In a statement released on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC’s Yaba, Lagos office, confirmed that the examination has not been cancelled and dismissed the viral claims as false and misleading.
“The WAEC management would like to state unequivocally that the spurious press statement being circulated did not emanate from the council. The examination has not been cancelled,” the statement emphasized.
WAEC described the viral cancellation claim as the handiwork of “mischief-makers” who aim to cause unnecessary panic among students, parents, and schools nationwide. The council further disclosed that the marking of examination scripts has recently been concluded and that the 2025 WASSCE results will be officially released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.
The examination body urged the public to disregard any unofficial sources of information and reaffirmed that all verified updates, press releases, and announcements from WAEC are only shared through its official social media channels and accredited media platforms.
“All official communications are issued and signed by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office,” WAEC stated.
WAEC urged stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and schools, to remain calm and await the official release of results through the council’s designated channels.
