Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has expressed his apology to Nigerians over the team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Tanzania in Fès on Tuesday, the Galatasaray forward acknowledged the disappointment among fans.

“The expectations are very high. This AFCON gives us the chance to make amends,” Osimhen told Pooja Media. “We want Super Eagles fans all over the world to believe that there is more we can deliver. We are deeply sorry. We have to take this opportunity to apologize for not securing the World Cup ticket. We understand the disappointment on the faces of Nigerian fans, and we are determined to keep pushing forward.”

Nigeria missed out on the 2026 World Cup after losing to DR Congo in the playoff final a few weeks ago, ending the team’s hopes of participating in the global tournament.
