Vice President Shettima Departs for Ethiopia to Represent Nigeria at UN Food Systems Summit

Abuja, Nigeria – July 28, 2025 – Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will represent Nigeria at the second United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), taking place from July 27 to 29, 2025.
The high-level global summit brings together heads of state, ministers, and key stakeholders to review progress made since the inaugural 2021 edition and to fast-track efforts toward building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems worldwide.
According to a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima will participate in several strategic engagements. These include ministerial roundtables on public finance, trade, and responsible agricultural investment, as well as a major dialogue focused on transforming the global coffee value chain.
The Vice President is also expected to engage in side events, such as field visits, expert networking sessions, and knowledge-sharing platforms designed to boost international collaboration on food security and sustainable agriculture.
Nkwocha highlighted Nigeria’s key objectives at the summit:
- Position Nigeria as a leading voice on food systems reform across Africa.
- Strengthen global partnerships that support Nigeria’s national development priorities.
- Promote a private sector-driven approach to transforming food systems across the continent.
The summit is jointly hosted by the United Nations in collaboration with the governments of Ethiopia and Italy, alongside other development partners under the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria upon conclusion of his official duties at the summer
