Legendary Nigerian highlife musician Bright Chimezie has expressed heartfelt appreciation after Afrobeats superstar Davido acknowledged that his classic hit “Because of English” served as inspiration for Davido’s newly released song “With You” featuring Omah Lay.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Hip TV, Chimezie revealed he was unaware of the connection until Davido personally informed him. The veteran singer, who made a cameo appearance in the visuals for “With You,” described the moment as emotional and deeply humbling.
“Words cannot describe how I feel. I’m so delighted and honoured. I’m grateful to Davido for recognizing that he drew inspiration from me,” Chimezie said.
“I didn’t know the song ‘With You’ was inspired by ‘Because of English’ until Davido called me and explained it. The humility he showed touched me deeply. It makes me proud to know I still inspire the new generation.”
