VeryDarkMan Slams Lawyer Deji Adeyanju Over ‘Cowardly’ Warning Against Risky Activism

Rewritten Story:

VeryDarkMan Criticizes Lawyer Deji Adeyanju Over Warning to Avoid Unnecessary Risks

Controversial Nigerian social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has publicly condemned his legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, over a warning the lawyer issued urging him to avoid unnecessary risks in his activism.

Adeyanju, in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), advised VeryDarkMan to be cautious, stressing that Nigerians rarely hold on to individuals after their demise. The lawyer stated, “I call VDM every time to be careful and stop taking unnecessary risks, but he doesn’t listen most of the time. If anything happens to you today, everyone has moved on by tomorrow. We only overrate ourselves. Nigerians don’t rate anybody.”

The statement triggered speculation of a fallout between the lawyer and his client. Reacting swiftly via an Instagram video, VeryDarkMan didn’t hold back his disappointment, branding such advice as a product of fear and cowardice.

“I’m really disappointed by this tweet from my lawyer, Deji Adeyanju. Especially because you are a comrade,” he said. “If it was an ordinary Nigerian who said this, I would have assumed they didn’t know better.”

While acknowledging that Nigerians are known to quickly move on from tragedies, he argued that it is a global phenomenon.

“Nigerians will move on if anything happens to me, yes, but who doesn’t the world move on from? Jesus Christ died, and the world moved on. The Pope died, and a new one was installed. Even Buhari died, and Nigeria moved on. So who do you think you are? Who is special?” he questioned.

VeryDarkMan insisted that such statements are used to instill fear and silence activists. “Anyone who says Nigeria will move on if you die is a coward. That’s the kind of language politicians use to keep people quiet. This is coward talk.”

He further pointed out that risk is part of life, and danger can find anyone, even those who avoid the spotlight.

“Some people who don’t even take risks still get killed in their homes. Look at what’s happening in Benue, Borno, Taraba, Delta, Enugu. Nobody is more important than anyone. You overestimate your value when, in reality, we are all nothing,” he added.

The video has since gone viral, sparking debate on the responsibilities and limits of activism in Nigeria, especially in an environment where critics frequently face threats and suppression.
