VeryDarkMan, Ratel Movement Leader, Arrested After Protesting GTBank’s Alleged Unauthorised Deductions

Abuja, Nigeria – Popular Nigerian social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, has reportedly been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja following a public outcry over alleged unauthorised debits from his mother’s Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) account.

His legal counsel, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, confirmed to SaharaReporters on Friday that the arrest occurred in Area 3, Abuja. According to Adeyanju, the arrest was initiated by GTBank in response to VeryDarkMan’s social media posts exposing repeated deductions from his mother’s bank account for loan repayments she allegedly never applied for.

“My client, VeryDarkMan, was arrested today in Abuja by the Nigerian police. His only offence was speaking out about suspicious and repeated debits from his mother’s GTBank account for loans she never took,” Adeyanju stated.

In a viral video shared earlier, VeryDarkMan narrated how he and his mother visited a GTBank branch in Abuja to demand clarity and access her transaction history after noticing consistent deductions.

“We came to GTBank to get an explanation for the constant debits from her account in the name of loan repayments. In 2025 alone, there have been over seven unexplained deductions,” he wrote.

GTBank staff, according to him, were cooperating and promised to look into the matter, but shortly after, he was arrested.

This incident follows a similar case reported by SaharaReporters on April 14, 2025, involving another GTBank customer, Ariyo Ahmed Adewale, who accused the bank of orchestrating his arrest after protesting at a branch in Lagos over the disappearance of ₦2 million from his account.

Ariyo claimed the funds were allegedly used for transactions on the e-commerce platform Jumia, which he says he has never used. Despite promptly reporting the unauthorised transaction and requesting account blockage, the deductions continued.

He also alleged resistance from GTBank staff when he visited the Kosofe branch to request a detailed account statement. The police reportedly advised him to submit a formal complaint and involve legal representation.

These incidents raise growing concerns among GTBank customers about account security, unauthorised debits, and alleged intimidation of complainants.
