US Election: Kamala Harris Campaign Gets $20Million Boost In Donations After Tim Walz’s Selection As Running Mate
This milestone was revealed as Harris and Walz made their joint debut at a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, marking the launch of their targeted campaign efforts in crucial battleground states, Spectrum News reports.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign reported a significant surge in fundraising, collecting over $20 million in the immediate aftermath of announcing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
This milestone was revealed as Harris and Walz made their joint debut at a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, marking the launch of their targeted campaign efforts in crucial battleground states, Spectrum News reports.
Harris announced Walz as her running mate for the November election against Donald Trump.
The Democrats presidential nominee made this announcement via an X post on Tuesday.
Harris said, “I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team. Now let’s get to work.”
On the eve of Tuesday’s rally, the Harris campaign announced that it had received $10 million in grassroots donations following the selection of Tim Walz as her running mate.
This news came after the Democratic National Committee confirmed Harris as the party’s nominee, with a resounding 99% of delegates supporting her in a virtual roll call vote.
Walz, a 60-year-old former teacher and veteran, was chosen for his communication skills, which have been instrumental in shaping the Harris campaign’s messaging strategy, notably labeling Trump and JD Vance as “weird”. As a former U.S. Representative for a historically Republican district and current Governor of Minnesota since 2018, Walz brings a unique blend of experience and appeal to the ticket.
The Harris campaign’s latest fundraising surge, sparked by Tim Walz’s selection as vice presidential nominee, adds to the campaign’s impressive $310 million raised in July – a record-breaking month for grassroots fundraising in U.S. history.
Notably, two-thirds of the July haul came from first-time donors, building on the $200 million raised since President Biden’s endorsement.
The campaign saw an influx of 3 million donors making 4.2 million contributions, with over 2 million making their first donations of the 2024 election cycle.
In comparison, Donald Trump’s campaign raised $138.7 million in July and holds $327 million in cash reserves, slightly less than Harris’ campaign, which boasts around $377 million in reserves
