Union Bank of Nigeria Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to gender equality and social inclusion with the launch of a special campaign marking International Women’s Day 2026 and the broader International Women’s Month celebration.
The initiative, themed “Give to Gain: Creating Pathways for Inclusion and Endless Opportunities,” focuses on empowering women living with disabilities as well as women raising children with disabilities, groups often overlooked in mainstream empowerment programmes.
The campaign aligns with the global theme “Give to Gain” and highlights the importance of creating deliberate support systems that promote social inclusion and economic advancement for women facing unique challenges.
As part of the month-long activities, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc organised a flagship engagement at The Stable, its multi-purpose event venue located in Lagos. The event brought together women living with disabilities, caregivers, advocacy groups, and development partners for conversations centred on mentorship, collaboration, and access to resources.
Beyond the event, the bank plans to carry out outreach programmes to disability support centres while partnering with educational institutions to provide learning materials to female students with disabilities.
The bank will also roll out mentorship and empowerment initiatives designed to strengthen women’s confidence and capabilities in areas such as education, entrepreneurship, and career development.
Through its women-focused banking platform alpher, Union Bank intends to provide specialised business sustainability training tailored for women with disabilities and mothers caring for children with disabilities, helping them build stable sources of income and long-term financial independence.
Internally, the bank will activate WeHub, its employee-led women’s network, to promote a more inclusive work culture while supporting leadership and career growth opportunities for women within the organisation.
Speaking on the initiative, Chief Brand and Marketing Officer of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Olufunmilola Aluko, said the campaign reflects the bank’s belief that inclusion must go beyond rhetoric to meaningful action.
According to her, many empowerment programmes fail to address the unique challenges faced by women with disabilities or those raising children with disabilities.
“At Union Bank, inclusion is not an abstract idea; it is a conscious decision. Conversations about women’s empowerment are important, but women living with disabilities and those raising children with disabilities are frequently excluded. Our ‘Give to Gain’ theme highlights our belief that when opportunities are intentionally created for these women, the benefits extend to families, communities, and society,” she said.
The campaign also aligns with the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), which emphasise inclusive development and equal opportunities for all.
Founded in 1917, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc remains one of Nigeria’s long-standing financial institutions, operating under its “Simpler, Smarter Banking” philosophy. The bank serves individuals, businesses, and public sector clients through a nationwide network of more than 300 branches and a wide range of digital banking platforms.
Through initiatives like “Give to Gain,” the bank says it aims to deepen its commitment to underserved communities by creating meaningful opportunities that foster dignity, empowerment, and long-term economic participation.
