British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has voiced strong frustration over the instability of energy prices in the United Kingdom, blaming global actions linked to Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

In an interview on ITV News’ Talking Politics podcast aired Thursday, Starmer said he is “fed up” with the constant rise and fall of energy bills affecting households and businesses across the country.

His remarks come as global oil prices continue to fluctuate amid tensions surrounding the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, despite a fragile two-week ceasefire.

Responding to the criticism, a White House spokesperson defended Trump’s stance, arguing that decisive action was necessary to address long-standing concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The spokesperson added that progress is being made toward a lasting peace agreement.

Starmer also criticized Israel’s military actions during the ceasefire, describing strikes on Lebanon as “wrong.” Iran, meanwhile, has accused the United States of breaching the ceasefire terms, citing the Lebanon attacks among its concerns.

Highlighting the domestic impact, Starmer stressed that ordinary families and businesses are bearing the brunt of geopolitical decisions made far beyond the UK’s borders.

The ongoing global tension can be traced back in part to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has destabilized energy markets and contributed to prolonged economic uncertainty worldwide.
