In the past week, violence has flared at protests across the nation, with far-right activists targeting hotels housing asylum seekers and mosques.
The rise in tensions has seen clashes between protesters and police, leading to several arrests.
Al Jazeera reports that activists monitoring far-right communications are concerned about potential attacks by racist mobs on at least 30 locations across the country.
The locations include solicitors and advice groups supporting migrants and refugees, as well as immigration centers. Police are preparing for further violence following several days of unrest that have already resulted in over 400 arrests.
However, the Liverpool Region Mosque Network (LRMN) has called for anti-racist demonstrators to “stand down” and allow the police to manage the situation.
In a statement on X, LRMN stated, “We have carefully assessed the local and national situation. Following discussions with the police and anti-racism supporters, we believe the best approach to de-escalate and bring calm to the situation and potential disturbances planned for tonight is to leave it to the police entirely.”
They also noted that the government has granted police “extra powers” to address the far-right “extremists.”
Meanwhile, the police are preparing for 100 far-right protests and 30 counter-protests tonight.
Police sources indicate that forces are prepared for a “very busy night,” with nearly 4,000 riot officers deployed across the country and an additional 2,000 on standby.
