Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk has praised Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following the Reds’ 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray in Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League clash.
The Dutch defender admitted that Osimhen’s presence in the attack caused problems for Liverpool’s backline, as the Super Eagles forward created several chances during the game.
Although Osimhen failed to convert some opportunities, Van Dijk noted that he remained dangerous throughout the match and successfully converted his first-half penalty, which secured Galatasaray’s victory at Rams Park.
“They won a penalty and created a few chances because of our mistakes. It was a bit of a messy game,” Van Dijk said after the match.
“Osimhen scored from the spot and had a few more chances. He couldn’t finish them all, but he showed his quality by creating opportunities himself. Galatasaray’s attacking players are very successful,” the Liverpool defender added.
Van Dijk also reflected on Liverpool’s poor performance, admitting that the team made costly errors that allowed the Turkish champions to claim all three points.
