Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho has declared that he still holds the title of Chelsea’s most successful manager as he prepares to face his former club in the UEFA Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Portuguese tactician noted that until another coach surpasses his record of winning three Premier League titles with the Blues, he remains the biggest figure in the club’s managerial history.
“Chelsea is a winning machine that, in the past two or three years, has had a period without trophies,” Mourinho said.
“They won before me, then my team kept winning, and later new teams and coaches came with more silverware, including European trophies and the Champions League.
“But I am still the biggest one — until someone comes and wins four Premier League titles for Chelsea.”
Mourinho, who also lifted the FA Cup and multiple domestic cups during his two spells at Stamford Bridge, is regarded by many Chelsea fans as a legend for transforming the club into a dominant force in English football.
