UAE President to Visit Nigeria in 2025, Strengthening Economic Ties

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has accepted an invitation to visit Nigeria this year. The invitation was extended by Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025.

According to Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for President Tinubu, the meeting focused on fostering deeper economic ties between the two nations. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for President Tinubu’s presence at the Sustainability Summit, emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Nigeria.

The discussions also explored avenues to attract substantial investments into Nigeria. President Tinubu highlighted the positive impact of his administration’s economic reforms, which have stabilized and grown the Nigerian economy. He noted that these reforms have bolstered investor confidence, prompting international oil companies and other foreign investors to announce billion-dollar commitments to Nigeria.

“Your administration’s policies are setting the foundation for Nigeria to become an attractive investment hub in Africa,” Sheikh Mohamed remarked during their discussions.

President Tinubu urged the UAE to deepen its partnership with Nigeria by contributing to key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, and technology, which are vital for sustainable development in Africa’s most populous nation.

The Nigerian president, who arrived in Abu Dhabi as a guest of the UAE leader, participated in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. This global forum serves as a platform for addressing pressing challenges like climate change, water scarcity, and energy crises. During the event, Tinubu delivered Nigeria’s position on climate change and other global challenges, while congratulating the UAE for hosting a successful summit.

President Tinubu’s delegation included Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance; and Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser. On the UAE side, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other top officials accompanied the UAE President.

The upcoming visit by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is anticipated to solidify the commitments made during the bilateral talks and to further enhance the relationship between Nigeria and the UAE.
