Turkish Airlines has announced plans to ramp up flight frequencies to Lagos and Abuja, reinforcing its strategy to strengthen air links between Nigeria and the rest of the world.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the airline’s General Manager, Lokman Balkan, said the move forms part of Turkish Airlines’ mid-term growth vision for Nigeria. According to him, the airline intends to deepen its footprint in the market, starting with additional frequencies into Lagos before expanding further in Abuja.
Balkan noted that the airline’s operational focus is on innovation aimed at delivering smoother, more connected, and comfortable travel experiences. He added that Turkish Airlines remains committed to adapting its services to meet the changing expectations of Nigerian passengers.
Despite intensifying competition on international routes, Balkan said the carrier continues to stand out through its vast global network, premium service standards, and renowned Turkish hospitality. He stressed that personalised service and consistent quality are central to the airline’s value proposition.
He also disclosed that Turkish Airlines routinely conducts audits of its Nigerian operations to ensure alignment with international benchmarks for safety, security, and service delivery.
Turkish Airlines currently operates flights to 356 destinations in 132 countries, offering Nigerian travellers extensive global reach through its hub in Istanbul. Balkan said passengers benefit from shorter connections, wider destination choices, and visa-free transit through Istanbul, making journeys to Europe, Asia, and the Americas more convenient.
He added that the expanded services support Nigeria’s economy by promoting trade, tourism, education, and business access to international markets.
