President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a National Fraud Enforcement Division within the U.S. Department of Justice, aimed at tackling large-scale fraud targeting American taxpayers.
In a statement shared on his social media platform, Trump nominated federal prosecutor Colin McDonald as the first-ever Assistant Attorney General for National Fraud Enforcement, describing the new division as a cornerstone of his administration’s anti-fraud agenda.
“I am pleased to nominate Colin McDonald to serve as the first ever Assistant Attorney General for National Fraud Enforcement, a new Division at the Department of Justice, which I created to catch and stop fraudsters that have been stealing from the American people,” Trump said.
The former president claimed his administration has uncovered extensive fraud schemes in states including Minnesota and California, alleging that criminals diverted hundreds of billions of dollars from public funds through complex operations.
Trump praised McDonald as an experienced and formidable prosecutor, citing his track record in handling high-profile and complex cases.
“Colin McDonald is a very smart, tough, and highly respected America First federal prosecutor who has delivered justice in some of the most difficult and high-stakes cases our country has ever seen,” he said.
According to Trump, McDonald’s appointment will strengthen oversight of federal programs and help rebuild public trust.
“Together, we will end the fraud and restore integrity to our federal programs,” he declared.
The newly established division is expected to focus on prosecuting financial crimes involving government funds, including abuse of social programs, procurement fraud, and large-scale identity theft.
