SCOTLAND — Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a revised 10-day ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin to broker a peace deal with Ukraine or face severe economic consequences, including massive secondary tariffs on nations trading with Moscow.

Trump, who previously gave a 50-day deadline expiring in early September, announced on Monday that the U.S. would no longer wait that long due to a lack of visible progress in ending the war.

“I’m going to make a new deadline of about 10 or 12 days from today,” Trump stated during a joint press briefing in Scotland with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“I’m disappointed in President Putin. Russia and Ukraine — I would have said five times we had a deal.”

The former president, who once praised his relationship with Putin, expressed growing frustration over the intensifying conflict in Ukraine.

“I spoke to President Putin a lot. Got along with him very well,” Trump said. “Then he launches rockets into Kyiv and kills innocent people — in a nursing home, or wherever — and there are bodies lying all over the streets.”

Trump signaled that he may formally announce the new deadline within 24 hours, stressing that Washington will not hesitate to impose sanctions and tariffs of up to 100% on countries continuing to engage in trade with Russia if peace is not reached.

“But there’s no reason to wait. If you know what the answer is going to be, why wait?” he added.

The original 50-day deadline was issued on July 14, when Trump warned that without a ceasefire agreement, any buyer of Russian exports would be hit with substantial tariffs.

While Trump had largely refrained from criticizing Putin during his presidency, his recent remarks reflect a sharp turn in tone, as the Russia-Ukraine war shows no signs of ending and civilian casualties continue to rise.

Trump’s ultimatum adds fresh diplomatic pressure amid ongoing global concerns over the prolonged war and its broader economic and humanitarian consequences.
