Donald Trump stated on Monday that the ongoing military conflict with Iran will conclude “very soon” and suggested that oil prices are likely to decrease as a result.

The remarks came after crude prices surged past $100 per barrel over the weekend, creating turbulence in global financial markets.

“We’re making significant progress toward achieving our military objectives,” Trump said during a press conference at his Trump National Doral club near Miami, nine days after initiating joint operations with Israel on February 28.

Trump highlighted what he described as the near-total destruction of Iranian military capabilities, including over 50 naval vessels, air force units, and anti-aircraft systems, claiming the country’s leadership has been effectively neutralized.

When asked about the timeline for ending the conflict, Trump avoided giving a specific date, saying only, “Very soon.” He also warned of additional military strikes if deemed necessary, noting that some sensitive Iranian infrastructure, such as electricity grids, has not yet been targeted.

Earlier on Monday, an Iranian official threatened that oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz could be attacked, significantly affecting crude shipments. Despite these threats, Trump asserted that global oil supplies would eventually stabilize and vowed stronger actions against Iran if it restricts crude exports.

“We will strike them so severely that they, or anyone assisting them, will never reclaim that part of the world,” Trump said. He further emphasized that the U.S. aims to neutralize Iran’s ability to launch attacks against the U.S., Israel, and allies for the foreseeable future.

Trump also commented on the succession of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new supreme leader, expressing disappointment but declining to discuss assassination plans. He mentioned speaking with Vladimir Putin, who reportedly proposed ways for a swift resolution of the conflict.

“This is a military success unlike anything people have seen,” Trump said, adding that the operation represents the beginning of “building a new country” and avoiding prolonged involvement in the Middle East.
