Trevoh Chalobah was stretchered off during Chelsea FC’s 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, raising concerns over the defender’s fitness ahead of upcoming Premier League fixtures.

Chalobah went down in a challenge with Achraf Hakimi late in the game, forcing Chelsea to play the closing minutes with ten men. Speaking after the match, assistant coach Liam Rosenior provided insight into the situation, revealing that the academy graduate suffered a high ankle sprain but likely avoided more serious ligament damage or a fracture.

Rosenior told TNT Sports: “I just asked the medical team, he’s got a high ankle sprain, so I’m praying it’s nothing too serious because of the way Trevoh’s been performing and we can’t afford to lose another defender right now.” At a press briefing, he added, “We are hoping and praying it wasn’t as bad as we first thought.”

The 26-year-old, who has made 38 starts across all competitions this season, will miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Everton FC”]. Chalobah’s injury comes shortly after fellow homegrown star Reece James was ruled out long-term with a hamstring problem, leaving the Blues’ defence thin.

With Wesley Fofana’s minutes being carefully managed due to fatigue, Chelsea’s backline will rely on Mamadou Sarr, Tosin Adarabioyo, Jorrel Hato, and Josh Acheampong for the Merseyside clash, while Benoit Badiashile was absent from the PSG squad.

Chelsea will hope Chalobah recovers swiftly to bolster their defence ahead of a congested run of fixtures
