Transfer Update: Galatasaray Line Up Nigeria’s Maduka Okoye as Next Signing After Victor Osimhen Deal
Turkish giants Galatasaray have set their sights on signing Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
Galatasaray are reportedly on the verge of finalizing a deal for Nigeria’s star striker Victor Osimhen, and Okoye is now next on their transfer shortlist as they plan for the future of their goalkeeping department.
Okoye, who left English Championship side Watford for Udinese in Serie A during the summer of 2023, has emerged as a key performer for the Italian club. The 24-year-old shot-stopper kept 10 clean sheets in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, earning praise for his commanding displays.
However, Okoye’s career has recently faced turbulence following allegations of betting fraud linked to Udinese’s Serie A fixture against Lazio on March 11, 2024 — accusations that have attracted scrutiny but remain unproven at this time.
Despite this, Galatasaray see Okoye as a long-term successor to veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, and have already begun talks with Udinese to explore the Nigerian international’s availability.
According to Italian outlet Calcio, Udinese have set a price tag of €15 million for the Super Eagles keeper, who is seen as one of the top African goalkeeping prospects in Europe.
If the deal goes through, Okoye would join fellow Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen in Istanbul, bolstering Galatasaray’s ambition to dominate the Turkish Super Lig and compete strongly in Europe next season.
