TotalEnergies In Nigeria has vowed to investigate a viral video of how attendants at a Total filling station in Igando, Lagos, forced customers to purchase meat pies before being sold petrol
In the viral video seen by SaharaReporters, a customer is heard complaining that the station insisted they must buy meat pie as a prerequisite to be sold fuel.
“I don’t understand what is happening at this Total filling station. How on earth will I be asked to buy meat pie before I buy fuel? What sort of rubbish is this? Is this place open for meat pie or for fuel?” one of the customers said
“This Total filling station trying rubbish (sic) with the masses,” he added
SaharaReporters also observed that the video trended on X as many Nigerians voiced their displeasure at the incident.
Many netizens described it as insensitive to the plights of Nigerians amid the scarcity of fuel nationwide.
An X user, Salihu said, “Nigerians are currently buying fuel between N700 and N1200 at official price.
“And then there’s this petrol attendant at Total Filling Station asking people to buy meat pie first, before he will sell fuel.”
“So if I wanted to buy 10k fuel from Total Filling Station, I’d have to buy N500 meat pie and N9500 fuel, yes?” another person, Bibiire added.
When SaharaReporters called the company’s care line for a reaction to the viral video, a staffer who identified himself as Moses berated the actions of the attendants.
He said, “We are not aware. But what you said they did is not good and against our company’s policies. We would love to have the video and we promise to begin a proper investigation on the matter
