Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo and revered as the Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw Nation, has dismissed reports circulating online alleging that he issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government concerning the detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement released in Warri on Sunday, his Media Consultant, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, clarified that Tompolo had no involvement in the publication and has no connection to matters surrounding Kanu’s incarceration.
The statement described the claims as a deliberate attempt by detractors to tarnish Tompolo’s reputation due to his strong stance against illegal crude oil operations in the Niger Delta. According to Bebenimibo, those behind the false reports aim to frustrate his commitment to ending oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the region.
He reaffirmed that Tompolo remains resolute in supporting the Federal Government’s efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stabilise the petroleum sector and promote national development.
Recent protests have been held in Abuja demanding Kanu’s release, as the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned his trial to allow him prepare his defence against the terrorism charges brought before him.
