Tiwa Savage Reveals Losing Endorsement After Rejecting Sexual Advance from Executive

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has opened up about the widespread issue of sexual exploitation faced by women in the entertainment industry.
Speaking at a panel organized by Entertainment Week Africa, Savage disclosed that female artistes are often pressured by influential male executives to exchange sexual favors for career opportunities. She shared a personal experience where she was asked to personally meet a powerful chairman to secure a show, and another instance where she lost an endorsement deal for refusing to travel to Dubai with the company’s co-owner.
Reflecting on the incidents, Savage said the experiences highlighted how some executives prioritize a woman’s body over her talent.
She stated, “I had been told that if I don’t go and see ‘this chairman’ personally, I would not be put on a show. I lost an endorsement because I refused to go to Dubai with a man who is one of the owners of the company. That was when I realised that they don’t value my talent but my body, which I was only flaunting as part of branding. It ended up hurting me because that is all they were seeing.”
Savage’s revelations shed light on the ongoing challenges female artistes face in securing fair opportunities in Nigeria’s music industry.
