President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 young people from Plateau State as forest guards in a bid to enhance security and protect rural communities.
The approval was announced on Tuesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima at a public event organised in honour of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, following his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Shettima, the initiative is designed to address rising insecurity in hard-to-reach areas, especially communities affected by recurring clashes between farmers and herders. He noted that deploying trained forest guards would help improve surveillance and early response to security threats across the state.
“The President has authorised the engagement of 1,000 Plateau youths as forest guards. Within the next three weeks, the people will begin to experience the real dividends of democracy,” the Vice President said.
Shettima further urged residents to support the Federal Government’s security efforts, stressing that peace and cooperation were essential for sustainable development. He assured the people of Plateau State that additional federal projects and interventions would soon be rolled out to accelerate growth and stability in the state
