Tinubu Orders Security Chiefs, IGP to Track and Arrest Killers Behind Benue Massacres

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a firm directive to Nigeria’s security architecture—including service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun—to identify, hunt down, and bring to justice those responsible for the recent killings in Benue State.
The President made the order during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Benue Government House in Makurdi, following his visit to the state over renewed violent attacks that have left scores dead and displaced.
“Police, I hope your men are on alert and ready to act on intelligence. How come no arrests have been made? I expect that by now, those criminals should have been apprehended,” Tinubu declared.
Addressing top military and intelligence officers, Tinubu emphasized the urgency of the situation, directly charging the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other high-ranking officials to intensify their operations:
“General Christopher, I appreciate your efforts, but we can’t afford to get tired. Air Marshal, DG NIA, DG SSS — it’s time to retool your intelligence networks and ensure actionable information is delivered to prevent further bloodshed.”
The President’s remarks come amid growing national outrage over the escalating violence in Benue State, often attributed to banditry and communal conflicts, though security experts warn that the crisis is more complex than mere farmers-herders clashes.
Calls for accountability and a proactive security response have intensified as affected communities continue to mourn their dead and demand justice.
President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians, promising that those behind the Benue killings will not escape justice.
