The Kogi State Police Command has arrested and paraded four suspects in connection with the brutal murder of 19-year-old Damilola Olowoyo, a first-year student of the Federal University Lokoja. The primary suspect, Jeremiah Paul, 20, from Chikun Local Government in Kaduna State, was apprehended alongside accomplices Emmanuel Otitoju, Banabas Olugbenga, and Ajayi Basit Ayomide.

In his shocking confession, Paul revealed that he orchestrated the murder under the influence of a native doctor he encountered on TikTok, who convinced him to kill Damilola as part of a ritual for wealth. Paul admitted that his initial contact with the native doctor, based in Ibadan, started entirely online. According to Paul, the ritualist provided detailed instructions on which body parts to remove, including her eyes, tongue, lungs, and other organs.

“I met Damilola last Sunday and we started chatting. I already had it in mind that I wanted to use her for rituals,” Paul confessed. He described how he drugged her by mixing codeine into her drink before luring her to an uncompleted building, where he strangled her. Paul explained that after removing the required body parts, he placed them in a calabash and sent them to the native doctor via a driver.

The suspects were paraded at the Police Headquarters in Lokoja on Friday, where Kogi State Police spokesperson William Aya provided further details. Aya explained that the police were alerted to Damilola’s disappearance after her family reported they could no longer reach her. The State Intelligence Department tracked her phone, leading to Paul’s arrest.

“The suspect confessed to meeting the deceased and luring her into a bush under the guise of friendship. After drugging her, he killed her and dismembered her body, removing her organs for ritual purposes,” Aya stated.

It was also revealed that Paul initially extorted a ransom of ₦400,000 from Damilola’s family before killing her. Investigations showed that one of Paul’s accomplices had first attempted to lure Damilola but backed out when he couldn’t meet the native doctor’s demands. Paul then took over, executing the gruesome crime.

The Kogi State Police Command urged students and citizens to exercise caution in their relationships and interactions, warning of the dangers posed by individuals who may be posing as friends but have harmful intentions. The suspects are expected to be charged in court following the conclusion of the investigation.
