The Lagos State Police Command has detained three police inspectors for allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old man, Jacob Sunday, so severely that he slipped into a coma.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening at the 22 PMF Barracks in Ogudu.
According to preliminary investigations, the officers — Inspector John Alom of 63 PMF Ikorodu, Inspector Sunday Adoga of CTU Base 2 Ikeja, and Inspector Jehovah Usam of 22 PMF Ikeja — allegedly invited Jacob into their quarters around 6 p.m. before unleashing a brutal beating on him.
Jacob, who is said to be the son of Inspector Sunday Ochepo, was accused of having an affair with one ASP Audu Richard’s wife, identified as Sarah Richard, a resident of the same barracks.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the young man was stripped naked and tortured until he lost consciousness.
A team of detectives later rescued him and rushed him to the Police College Cottage Hospital in Ikeja, where he is currently receiving treatment in the emergency ward.
The Lagos Police Command confirmed that the three inspectors have been arrested and are currently in custody while internal disciplinary and criminal investigations are underway.
Police authorities have assured the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate sanctions will be taken once the inquiry is concluded.
