The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has tightened security across the northwest border zone after three of its officers were killed during a late-night assault in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, when heavily armed men carried out a coordinated strike on an NIS checkpoint under the Tuga Border Patrol Formation in Bakin Ruwa. During the invasion, the attackers reportedly vandalised key operational assets and damaged several facilities, an operation authorities described as violent and highly tactical.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, said Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the personnel. She described them as courageous officers who paid the ultimate price while safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial borders.
The NIS assured the families and colleagues of the fallen officers of its unwavering support, emphasising that their bravery and sacrifice “will never be forgotten.”
Following the incident, the Comptroller General ordered a rapid tactical response to the area. The measures include the deployment of additional operatives to the Tuga axis, expanded joint operations with other security agencies, and strengthened intelligence-gathering across the border corridor. Patrol activities within the region have also been intensified to discourage further attacks and reinforce security presence.
The Service reaffirmed that despite rising threats, it remains fully committed to securing Nigeria’s borders and will not be deterred by criminal aggression. Residents in the affected communities were urged to remain calm and continue cooperating with security personnel working to protect lives and property.
