Thousands Of Edo Residents, Motorists Stranded As Major Road Breaks Down

Thousands of road users and commuters are stranded in the Oke Ora axis of Owan West Local Government Area in Edo State as the popular Sabogidda Auchi road is no longer suitable for vehicle movement

In photos of the road shared by a popular civic tech platform, Monitng, some travellers including the Nigerian policemen were seen stuck on the road because of its bad state.
Monitng wrote:”ATTENTION!!! Dear @GovernorObaseki. This is the DEPLORABLE state of Sabogidda Auchi road, Oke Ora axis in Owan West LGA, Edo State.
“Over 100 road users has been stranded since yesterday. The ONLY access road connecting over 500 communities in Edo North now a death trap.
SaharaReporters learned that the previous government of Muhammadu Buhari earmarked millions of Naira to renovate this major road but nothing has been done for years.
“Despite the millions of naira budgeted in the last administration for palliative repairs the road is yet to serve the residents of Owan east and Owan west local government area. Millions of naira worth of farm products have perished as a result of lack of access roads,” a source from the community told SaharaReporters.
He continued: “The residents are calling on the Edo state government and the minister for works to kindly reach out to the relevant agencies to kindly fix the failed section so that residents can sell their farm products
“We also call on the Owan federal constituency representative Hon Professor Julius Ihonvbere to also use his good office to facilitate the rehabilitation of the road. This is the only access road that leads to his community is in a deplorable state. He is the Majority Leader of House of representative
