Suspected terrorists attempted to attack the School of Nursing in Isanlu Makutu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State on Sunday night, sparking fear among students and residents.

Reports obtained by SaharaReporters indicate that the assailants stormed the community aiming to overrun the institution. However, local vigilante groups confronted them in a fierce gun battle lasting about an hour, forcing the attackers to retreat into nearby bushland.

“The situation was tense for some time, but the vigilantes stood firm and drove them away,” a resident told SaharaReporters. Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and safeguard both students and residents.

This incident follows a recent attack along the Ayere–Kabba road in Ijumu Local Government Area, where gunmen ambushed a commercial bus, leaving one person dead and several others injured. Witnesses said some vehicles escaped, but multiple passengers were hit by bullets.

Residents have raised concerns over the growing insecurity along the Ayere–Kabba axis, citing repeated attacks by armed gangs operating between Kogi and neighbouring Kwara State.
