Tensions Rise as Israeli Strike Kills Lebanese Journalist, Iran-US Talks Hit Deadlock

Regional tensions have escalated following the killing of a Lebanese journalist in an Israeli strike, as diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States face renewed setbacks.
Lebanon has condemned the attack that killed journalist Amal Khalil and injured her colleague Zeinab Faraj, describing it as a violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement with Israel. Authorities say repeated strikes and destruction of civilian property continue despite the truce.
Meanwhile, senior Iranian officials have accused the United States of derailing peace negotiations, citing a naval blockade on Iranian ports as a major obstacle. Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran remains open to dialogue but warned that “breaches of commitments, blockades, and threats” are undermining trust.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported seizing two foreign vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and firing on a third for allegedly violating maritime rules, further heightening tensions in the strategic waterway.
In Washington, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said Donald Trump has not set a timeline for ending the current ceasefire arrangement with Iran, noting that the decision ultimately rests with the president.
As diplomatic uncertainty grows and military incidents increase, fears are mounting over a broader regional escalation, with casualties continuing to rise across multiple fronts.
