Tension Looms as Turaki Camp, Wike-Aligned PDP Faction Fix Separate Meetings at Party Headquarters

A fresh power struggle is brewing within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as two opposing factions have scheduled separate meetings for today (Tuesday) at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza — raising fears of a possible confrontation.
The crisis deepened after both the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led leadership and the recently expelled members aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced major meetings to be held at the same venue.
The Wike-backed faction, whose members were expelled over alleged anti-party activities, earlier released a notice for an emergency meeting inside the National Executive Council (NEC) Hall. The announcement was made by the factional National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, just days after their removal.
However, in a surprise twist, Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki — newly elected National Chairman of the PDP at the Ibadan Elective Convention — also declared that his leadership would be holding its inaugural NEC meeting in the same hall and at the same secretariat.
Speaking to journalists on Monday after submitting a petition against the expelled members at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Garki, Turaki insisted that his team would proceed as planned.
He stated:
“The party will hold its inaugural National Executive meeting tomorrow, November 18, at the national secretariat. Nothing will stop us from meeting at our office.”
The overlapping schedules have heightened tension, with fears that both camps may attempt to assert control over the party’s headquarters.
