Team Nigeria Dominates All African Para Badminton Championship with 36 Medals in Umuahia

Team Nigeria emerged overall champions at the 2025 All African Para Badminton Championships, which concluded in Umuahia, Abia State, clinching a total of 36 medals — 10 gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze.
Kenya finished second with 11 medals (4 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze), while Egypt placed third, collecting 3 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze.
Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, described the event as a true reflection of resilience, inclusion, and unity, highlighting the participation of athletes from across Africa.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, Governor Otti commended the teams from Benin Republic, Egypt, Cameroon, Mauritius, Mozambique, Tanzania, Rwanda, DR Congo, Kenya, and Burkina Faso for their participation.
He also thanked the Badminton World Federation and the Badminton Confederation of Africa for their partnership and assured that Abia State would be ready to host the championship again next year.
Abia State Director of Sports, Obioma George, expressed delight that athletes from the state made significant contributions to Nigeria’s success and appreciated Governor Otti for sponsoring the championship.
Participants from Egypt, DR Congo, and Kenya praised the organization of the tournament, describing it as a memorable and inspiring experience that strengthened bonds among African nations.
