TCN Maintenance to Cause Daily Power Cuts in Benin for Over a Month
Story: written by springnewsng February 26,2026
Residents and businesses across parts of Benin City are set to experience daily electricity outages lasting more than a month following a planned transmission upgrade by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) said the interruptions are linked to scheduled construction works on the 330kV Benin–Ajaokuta Line 2 at the Ihovbor 330kV Transmission Station. According to the utility, the shutdown is necessary to carry out critical infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving long-term grid stability.
The planned outage will run from 8:00 a.m. on Friday, 27 February 2026, through 31 March 2026, with power supply disrupted daily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. BEDC assured customers that electricity would be restored after 5:00 p.m. each day.
Feeders and areas affected
BEDC said four major 33kV feeders—Egba, Oluku, Uniben, and Ihovbor—will be impacted during the maintenance period. Communities expected to experience regular blackouts include Uniben, Ugbowo, Oluku, Upper Sakponba, Ihovbor, Egba, and surrounding areas.
The company appealed for patience from customers, noting that the temporary inconvenience is expected to support more reliable power supply in the future.
