NLC, TUC Declare Indefinite Strike in Taraba State Starting August 11 Over Biometric Data Dispute

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Taraba State have announced an indefinite strike beginning Monday, August 11, 2025, in protest against alleged irregularities in the state’s Biometric Data Capture process.

The decision was made public in a joint statement issued on Friday, August 8, and signed by NLC Chairman Peter Jediel and TUC Chairman Abasu Sule following a resolution reached during a Joint State Administrative Council meeting on August 6.

According to the unions, the strike action was necessitated by what they described as persistent illegalities by the Biometric Data Capture Committee, which they claim have adversely affected the welfare of workers in the state. Despite issuing an ultimatum to the state government, the unions said their demands were ignored.

“All affiliate unions, branches, and units of the NLC and TUC are directed to immediately establish strike implementation committees within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure full compliance and effective enforcement,” the statement said.

The unions said mobilization for the strike will begin immediately, and further directives would follow as necessary.

They called on all workers to remain vigilant, united, and committed to protecting their rights and welfare.
